Channel Your Inner Six Year-Old

So now that school is back in session, I have to put myself in the mindset of a six year-old. As a first grade teacher, I must communicate and impart various academic and life skills to students who will use them for life. So here is my inner six year-old... well me as a six year-old anyway. Yes, my inner six year-old is wearing a visor from an Applebee-esque establishment as a headband and finding it wildly funny. It is this type of humor I must deal with on a daily basis. How do I cope? I laugh. Hard. Like today when we were constructing patterns with blocks, and then transferring them to paper by gluing the corresponding paper shapes. I asked a child with a completed block pattern to get the paper shapes from the table; "You will need four yellows and two reds." A minute later I return to said child's desk and see four yellow CRAYONS, and two red CRAYONS. My EA and I had quite a chuckle as you can imagine, however Six Year-Old did not see the humor. I think he was wondering how six crayons were going to help him glue shapes on his paper. So even when a six year-old isn't trying to be funny, my inner six year-old is thoroughly entertained.

We're doing pattern blocks and paper shapes next week! Keep laughing Mo- that's the best way to get through these first few weeks!

at least you teachers have "normal" kids in your classrooms. I find it hard to talk to adults after spending time w/ autistics and alcohol-syndrome kids. and today we started w/ 4-year-old hispanics, some of whom don't speak english! but they sure are cute!

Definitely Chase! To think that girl in the picture is married, has two kids, a dog, an RV, smokes, drinks, is an (exotic) dancer , likes to gamble...

...is a great teacher and a way cool parent...
