Reinstating the Nap Time
Chase has been napless since 2005. Bummer, because newborns make Shawn and me very tired. Downtime? Usually 9 p.m., when the baby goes down. So my husband suggests that we reinstate our eldest's naptime. "Yikes," I think to myself. "He'll never go down at 8; he'll be running about like a lunatic during Letterman." This is not a premonition -- it is a flashback to 2005. However, against my better judgment, we gave naptime a try this week. I have been very pleasantly surprised. The baby has swingtime at 1:00, so with Chase asleep, I have two hands and no one crawling in my lap. I can shop online without anyone demanding the Thomas the Tank Engine website ("ahThomasonacomputah?"), or watch Tevo'ed Deadwood. The best part? Chase goes to bed at 8:00 without complaint! He may not fall asleep instantly, but he is quiet in his bed, which is all the mommy cares about. Conclusions? My husband is the smartest man in the world. Nap time rocks.
And, if you cared about any of that, you will appreciate this too: Chase and Mommy had a Date Day today. Lunch at the exclusive KFC (mother and son share a love of the mac and cheese), ice cream at Baskin Robbins, and Chase's first trip to the movies! We saw Barnyard. While I sat marveling at the fact that I NEVER get to see a movie in the theater, and now I'm stuck listening to Courtney Cox in her role as an animated bovine, Chase was LOVING it. Which, I suppose, was the point. He came home and napped until 6:30. I am screwed, but happy. Nap on. Nap on.
